it turns out i have a wind farm in my back yard and i had no idea. i discovered it the other week when i was driving by and just had to stop and take some photos. i hung out my sun roof and slowly inched my way up the road taking shots every once and awhile. it was really an incredible sight. they are huge and grace the horizon. it was cool view.

im working on a photo story for one of my classes and my subject is a breakdancing instructure here at SU. His name is Warren and he has a special instructors pass that allows him to come in and work with the breakdancers. He is a pretty good break dancer himself and pulls some great moves. I just started using flash which is making some of these pics pop. hopefully ill be getting better at it and have more and better pics to show later on.

executive portrait

so ive been away from the blogging world for awhile, i guess just trying to see where it all fits. ive decided that i wanna keep it going, past the part of just another assignment for class. that probably sounds too obvious but a lot of the obvious things in life you only see in hindsight, so cut me slack. at least im trying.

i have some trouble with picture formatting so i can only put up a couple photos from this shoot. thats the problem with have a PC and no photoshop, its a pain to run around and work on my photos. once i get some others converted i can add them too but i wanted to put something up now. this was for a class project where we design a product and a company around it. part of this assignment is to take en executive photo. it took me 3 shoots to finally get a decent shot and even this probably isnt sufficient enough so i will be doing a 4th shoot sometime this semester. the first shoot, my flash didnt have batteries. the second one i couldnt work the flash with the camera which turned out to be the least of my issues since the D300 i checked out wasnt compatible with my memory  card. so all of those pics were lost. i resorted to a third attempt with my D40 and got these ones. i’ll get the hang of this process soon but until then im just getting a lot of practive :-P

since my flash didnt work with my D40 im using all natural light, i think it turned out well considering except for the background which kinda looks like shes in jail. woops!

this is the photo i turned in, liked the light coming from behind and bouncing off the reflector i have in front of her. now ive gotta work on my background :-P

this was the space i chose for the shoot, a balcony spot in the hall of languages. i wanted the stone background to add texture but i might try another space next time to compare

being away from home made thanksgiving a hard holiday this year but i tried to make up for it by doing something special. so i went to the ballet at the royal opera house! it was wonderful. i saw Manon which is a lovely love story about a girl, Manon who is in love with one man but is tied to another because of his wealth. it ends tragically but was beautifully performed. here are some of the pics i snapped before and after the show.

this past weekend was filled with some great sight seeing. ive been catching up on all the london attractions before i have to leave in a couple weeks :-( one of the great places i hadnt been yet was Harrods! and im so glad i went cuz its an awesome department store. they have everything! unfortunately its super expensive so its not some place id regularly shop buts its worth going every once in awhile. i had to buy something though so i got a cute london key chain.

since england doesnt celebrate thanksgiving, they start decorating for christmas early! so the city already has all its twinkle lights up and its so beautiful. Harrods was shining bright and after we were done shopping, Durriyyah and I found a winter carnival in Hyde Park! so of course we stopped by there. i <3 london!

Cosmo China

•November 22, 2008 • Leave a Comment

this week ive been working on a photo essay of a local business. my business was a shop called cosmo china which buys plain white china in bulk and has in-house artists that personally paint designs onto the dishware. it is incredible work and they come up with all of the designs themselves. plus, they do commissions, so if you want a specific design they can custom make it for you! take a look!
